Pass the Freedom to Vote Act (S.2747)
More than 360 bills are winding their way through 47 different state legislatures as part of a coordinated wave of voter suppression efforts across the United States—some are even calling it Jim Crow 2.0 because of how these bills would disenfranchise working families and people of color. With the many challenges our country is facing, the stakes could not be higher for our democracy. This is why we need to pass the Freedom to Vote Act (S.2747).

    Make Universal School Meals Permanent
The coronavirus pandemic has shined a light on inequities in our communities and how they affect our students. But it has also given us an opportunity to build back better for our students and our communities. Making sure all students have the food they need to thrive, regardless of geography or demography, is one way we can do that. Tell your lawmakers: Make universal school meals a permanent part of our public school system.

MARCH 25 TOPIC: Asking US Senators to Pass the For the People Act

The For the People Act is a comprehensive and urgently needed, democracy reform bill that covers three main areas: campaign finance, government ethics laws, and voting rights. The package of reforms would protect and strengthen American democracy by strengthening voter registration and voting processes, limiting large corporations influence over elections and giving more voice to those who have been silenced too long.

Learn More About the American Rescue Plan
Working people and their advocates are breathing a collective sigh of relief after the Senate passed the American Rescue Plan March 6. Once signed into law, this powerful piece of legislation will provide much-needed assistance to accelerate COVID-19 testing and vaccination programs and to get money to families struggling with job loss, food insecurity, the threat of homelessness and other challenges related to the pandemic.

AFT has compiled resources for local leaders and members, and made them accessible to everyone on our website.

Write your US Sens. and Rep: Pass the PRO Act Now!
The PRO Act is the cornerstone of the AFL-CIO’s Workers First Agenda. Stronger unions mean higher wages, safer working conditions and dignity for all people who work.
The House passed the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act last year, but anti-worker senators blocked it. Undeterred, working people fought to elect pro-worker lawmakers to the Senate, House and White House. And we won.
Lawmakers promised workers the PRO Act would be a top priority -- and it's time for them to keep that promise.

The PRO Act is the cornerstone of the AFL-CIO’s Workers First Agenda. If it passes, it would:

    • Empower workers to organize and bargain.

    • Hold corporations accountable for union-busting.

    • Repeal “right to work” laws, which were created during the Jim Crow era to keep White and Black workers from organizing together.

The PRO Act is our first step to 'Build Back Better with Unions.' Tell your Senators and member of Congess to vote “yes” on the PRO Act.
