League of Women Voters of Dare County is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The history of this 100 mile long fragile strip of barrier islands boasts of infamous pirates, intrepid pioneers, and inventive playwrights.

We are a grassroots, all-volunteer organization, including both men and women united by a set of core values and principles.

The League neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties at any level of government.

The League encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

    Protect Voting Rights! Comments due by Oct. 20!
    The attacks on voting rights are escalating, and the clock is ticking! The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is now considering a reckless petition from the America First Legal Foundation that could gut the voter registration process as we know it. This proposal would require every voter to present specific “proof of citizenship” documents before registering, a move that would create massive barriers for eligible Americans.
    Millions of voters, from students and seniors to those in rural areas and communities of color, could be shut out of our democracy. Make no mistake: this isn’t about election security, it’s about voter suppression. 
    Submit your public comment now to tell the EAC: Don’t approve this attack on the freedom to vote! Every voice matters. Every comment counts. Together, we can prevent this dangerous proposal from taking root.

    No Kings 2 this Saturday!
    On Saturday, October 18, 2025, many organizations across the country will join together for the NO KINGS 2 protest against rising hate and authoritarianism.
     
    We will meet at the corner of Woods Rd and the Bypass in Kitty Hawk from 10 am - Noon. Parking is available at KHES and David Paul Pruitt Park.

    Tell Congress to Guarantee the Right to Vote
    The freedom to vote is under attack. Since the Supreme Court weakened the Voting Rights Act in 2013, over 100 laws have been passed making it harder to vote, hitting voters of color the hardest.

    We need the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore protections and stop discrimination at the ballot box. Tell Congress: Protect our freedom to vote. Pass the JLVRAA!

    Congress is pushing a budget that would gut Medicaid, putting life-saving care at risk for millions of Americans, including children, seniors, and pregnant people with limited incomes, and people with disabilities. These cuts are dangerous and unacceptable.
