7League of Women Voters of Dare County is located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The history of this 100 mile long fragile strip of barrier islands boasts of infamous pirates, intrepid pioneers, and inventive playwrights.
We are a grassroots, all-volunteer organization, including both men and women united by a set of core values and principles.
The League neither supports nor opposes candidates or political parties at any level of government.
The League encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

4With 70% of additional vouchers funded in this bill going to families earning more than $115,000 – and 23% would go to families earning $260,000 or more a year, legislators are signaling that there are state funds available for Opportunity Scholarships at private schools, but not for adequately funding public schools.
"I am very concerned about the voucher program. Expanding the Opportunity Scholarship program so that it funds the wealthiest students is NOT a fair use of public money. In addition, private schools have very limited accountability, regarding both how well they are educating students and how they use the funds. Providing an additional $248 million on top of the $385 million already allocated for the 2024-25 school year is wrong for North Carolina.”
