Call to ACTION-Contact your N.C. House Rep NOW!
We urge you to contact your N.C. House representative about a vote on House Bill 823-Eliminate School Choice Waitlists that has already passed in the Senate SB406.

With 70% of additional vouchers funded in this bill going to families earning more than $115,000 – and 23% would go to families earning $260,000 or more a year, legislators are signaling that there are state funds available for Opportunity Scholarships at private schools, but not for adequately funding public schools.

Letters, emails, and calls could relay this example message:
"I am very concerned about the voucher program. Expanding the Opportunity Scholarship program so that it funds the wealthiest students is NOT a fair use of public money. In addition, private schools have very limited accountability, regarding both how well they are educating students and how they use the funds. Providing an additional $248 million on top of the $385 million already allocated for the 2024-25 school year is wrong for North Carolina.”

    Wear Orange in June
On January 21, 2013, Hadiya Pendleton marched in President Obama's second inauguration. One week later, Hadiya was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago. Soon after this tragedy, Hadiya's friends commemorated her life by wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves. Wear Orange is now observed every June. Thousands of people wear the color orange to honor Hadiya and the more than 43,000 Americans that are killed with guns and approximately 76,000 more are shot and wounded every year.

    Sign4ERA Amendment Petition
A fast-growing number of folks have now signed the National Petition to place the ERA in the Constitution. Just like you, they know that placing the Equal Rights Amendment in the U.S. Constitution is the only way to restore and grant permanent protection for access to abortion and reproductive health care nationwide. That’s right. With the ERA in the Constitution no state or federal statute, no politician can ever take those rights away. And that’s exactly why, the number of caring folks like you has grown from 23,000 a few months ago, to 50,000 last month and TODAY TO A WHOPPING 77,321 with hundreds more now signing up for the ERA every day.

The politicians are getting the message. They’re now paying more and more attention to the ERA. But, we have to keep our Snowball growing.

We need to get 100,000 signers in just the next 15 days!
You can help us reach this goal by signing the petition for the ERA today.

    Gov. Cooper initiates N.C. Safe
Gov. Cooper kicks off a new gun safety initiative called N.C. SAFE and it stands for secure all firearms effectively.
This is in response to a skyrocketing number of deaths of children and youths caused by firearm injury and a surge in firearm thefts.
According to the N.C. Child Fatality Task Force, deaths from firearm-related injuries increased 231% from 2012 to 2021 among children and youths in the state.
Guns have now become the leading cause of injury-related death within this population in North Carolina, with an average of 156 children and teens dying by firearms every year.

NC Public Education - State of Emergency
On May 23, 2023, North Carolina's Governor Roy Cooper issued a state of emergency for public education. The current NC General Assembly is considering extreme legislation that would cripple the public education system.
Senate Bill 406 and House Bill 823 will allow billions of public taxpayer dollars to be spent toward private school vouchers with no income limits. It will rob public schools of needed funding and sanctions discrimination.
Contact your local legislators and tell them to oppose SB 406 and HB 823.
